Independent Living

Independent living communities offer a wonderful option for seniors who desire a self-sufficient lifestyle while still having access to a supportive and secure environment. These communities, sometimes referred to as retirement communities or senior living communities, cater to individuals who do not require 24-hour care or skilled nursing assistance but may benefit from some assistance with daily activities.

Just like residential care facilities for the elderly (RCFEs), independent living communities prioritize providing a safe and comfortable living environment. They are especially beneficial for individuals with dementia or those who are unable to physically care for themselves and rely on caregiver support. While the level of care may be less intensive compared to RCFEs, independent living communities offer various amenities and services to promote a fulfilling lifestyle for their residents.

Independent living communities can vary in size, ranging from small-scale communities with a few dozen residents to larger communities that accommodate hundreds of seniors. The emphasis on independence means that residents typically have their own private or shared apartments or houses, offering them a sense of autonomy and privacy. While assistance with activities of daily living, such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and medication management, may not be provided on a 24-hour basis, these communities often have staff available during designated hours to offer support and coordinate services as needed.

The main advantage of independent living communities is the opportunity they provide for seniors to maintain an active and engaging lifestyle. These communities often offer a range of amenities and activities tailored to the residents' preferences and interests. From fitness centers and social clubs to on-site dining and organized outings, independent living communities foster a sense of community and encourage residents to pursue their passions and enjoy a fulfilling retirement experience.
